The Top 5

To start off with, a brief run-through of the top 5 games that I was dearly devoted to as a kid. In order of first = best.

TOMB RAIDER 3
I chose this as number 1 because it has a unique atmosphere about it, the type you cannot get in any other game (apart from TR1 and 2 of course, but they aren't as good as TR3). Despite the graphics which are considered 'awful', the game manages to give the player a good set of jumpscares, creepy puzzles, mazes and a variety of iconic world places to discover. My most memorable moment of this game is in the London Aldwych level, where the tube zooms up the tunnel at goodness knows how many miles and hour and performs on Lara the best death that the game-designers could of simulated back in the 1990s. What's your favourite moment? Comment below! :)
SILENT HILL 1
If the 6 year old me could of handled gore in a better way than I did, this perhaps would of made it to No.1. As with TR3, the best thing about this game is the extremely eerie atmosphere. The town covered in fog killing two birds in one stone as having the fog helped the PS1 handle the memory at a better pace. Music was one of the creepy factors in this game, the buildup and the jumpscares were portrayed perfectly through this very frightening music. This game still gives me the chills to this day.
TOMBI
Little me wasn't always interested in gore, violence, and aggresive killing :D. The innocence and brightness of games such as Tombi also filled my childhood with good memories. I hadn't realised until now at 17 years of age just how dodgy this game really was! Take the level with the mood mushrooms for example, you have to collect different mushrooms which affect your mood depending on the colour of the mushroom o_o. 'The Happy Mushroom'. There was also a bunch of very very very creepy looking gigantic flowers which laughed or cried as they took the magic mushrooms.
SPYRO 1
Now the early spyro games can only be described as relics. The awesome thing about this iconic game is the many different worlds you can explore. From big castles in the sky to volcanic dinosaur caves, this game had every immersive atmosphere you could imagine. The storyline was great and this game must have been one of the first to fully portray a fairytale world in full 3D,
HALF LIFE 1
Coming in at number 5 is good old Half Life 1. While not so much can be said for 'atmosphere', this game had notably high-quality graphics for it's time. I liked the first person view and the mutiplayer option. I would spend hours shooting and destroying things on this game, although never standing out for how good I was at playing.. -.-.

Well that concludes a brief run-through of some of my favourite childhood games! A little something to get the blog started off anyway. If you have any iconic games you would like to mention don't hesitate to leave a comment. Easter-eggs, videos, art and more game descriptions are coming up soon!

Til the next time, Ben
